Digital Skilling: What works in driving course completions?
Learning brief from the Passport to Earning (P2E) Programme
About
Passport to Earning (P2E) leverages a digital platform to provide young people aged 15-24 with free, job-relevant skills, enabling access to advanced skilling and earning opportunities. Courses are offered on the Microsoft Community Training (MCT) platform, curated by employers, government partners, and youth advisers to fit local contexts. With blended learning, local-language content, and collaboration with country partners, P2E effectively adapts to local needs for broad reach and impact. P2E is currently implemented in Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, India, Niger, Nigeria, and Rwanda.
The learning briefs aim to capture tacit knowledge and facilitate real-time learning, enhancing program quality and addressing challenges in digital skilling initiatives. The purpose of these learning briefs is to codify the tacit and implicit knowledge accrued by P2E implementing teams. The learning captured within the briefs derives from qualitative data captured through this cross-team exchange. Purposefully excluding quantitative outcome and impact data, the learning brief series aims to facilitate rapid, real-time learning to foster the exchange of knowledge and the generation of insights to enhance programme quality and address emerging challenges in the implementation of digital skilling programmes.
Learning Highlights
Tailor the P2E delivery model to local contexts and incentivise programme stakeholders to drive course completions.
2. Develop an implementation plan that aligns with the realities of access to hardware, infrastructure, and data.
3. Prioritise courses which prepare learners with practical job relevant skills and knowledge so youth see the value in completing a course.
4. Provide certificates to learners that complete courses to recognise their achievements and enable them to demonstrate acquired competencies to prospective employers.
5. Build in wrap around support services to provide learners with offline support and guidance to complete online courses.
