H.E. Dr. Abdallah Utumatwishima
Minister of Youth, Rwanda
H.E. Dr. Abdallah Utumatwishima is the Minister of Youth of Rwanda. He is an attending physician in the surgery department and director general of public hospitals (Kinihira, Ruhengeri and Rwamagana) for the last 10 years.Â
Dr. Utumatwishima served as an epidemiology research fellow at the US National Institute of Health, where he investigated risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases of African Immigrants in the greater Washington D.C. area. He is currently investigating child stunting in relation to gender dimensions, childcare behaviors, and maternal mental health in the Northern Province of Rwanda.
Dr. Utumatwishima has received medical training from the University of Rwanda; he holds a master's in Public Health from the Manchester Metropolitan University, and is a PhD candidate from Gothenburg University. Since his time in university, he has been actively involved in youth development programs with the National Youth Council of Rwanda, and continues to do so to this day.
