Generation Unlimited, EdTechHub, UNESCO and UNESCO-UNEVOC have joined forces to launch EdTechTools: a global repository of remote learning tools and platforms aimed at teachers and trainers, learners and other education stakeholders looking for high-quality teaching and learning resources for distance learning.

Just over a year ago, the world experienced an education disruption at an unprecedented scale as countries around the globe were forced to close schools and other educational institutions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  According to UNESCO, one year into the pandemic, almost half of the world’s students are still affected by partial or full school closures.

EdTech tools are solutions that governments, institutions and individuals around the world have adopted to help respond to the school closures and the switch to remote or distance-learning modalities. In July 2020,  EdTech Hub and UNESCO published a searchable database of EdTech tools and solutions for the K-12 education sector. The database was developed to respond to the urgent needs facing the education community during the first wave of the pandemic.

But the pandemic is not just affecting children and adolescents in basic education; it is also disrupting the education and training of millions of children and young people participating in technical and vocational education and training, professional and skills-development programmes. Generation Unlimited,  EdTech Hub, UNESCO and UNESCO-UNEVOC have joined forces to meet the urgent needs for education and training opportunities for young people and relaunched the database as EdTechTools – now containing more than 200 distance-learning and skilling platforms and tools.

This expansion of EdTechTools seeks to enable practitioners and young people around the world to access high-quality resources to further their knowledge, improve their skills and continue learning. Users can search the EdTechTools database by using filters such as language, level, connectivity or device requirements and cost. Our aim is that all users can find learning tools and resources relevant to their situation, region, language and achievement level.
