Alan Jope
Former CEO at Unilever, Board Member, Advisor
Alan joined Unilever in 1985 and worked for a total of 11 years in the UK, 14 years in North America, and 13 years in Asia (Thailand, China, Singapore). He was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in 2019 and retired from Unilever in 2023.
Alan is a long-time partner to GenU and previously served as the chair of the GenU Board, the partnership’s primary decision making body.
Alan joined the Board of Accenture in April 2023, and is an advisor to a number of mid cap and startup companies. He Chairs The Leverhulme Trust, the UK’s largest private sector funder of non-medical academic research. He is also Chair of the Imperial Business School Advisory Board, sits on the Boards of the Mastercard Foundation and the Global Energy Alliance, and is a Commissioner on the Global Commission on Modern Slavery.
Alan holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Edinburgh University, Scotland. He graduated from Harvard Business School's General Management Program in 2001 and CEO Programme in 2019, and is a Visiting Fellow at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.
Alan is a UK citizen and US permanent resident. He is married, has three adult children, and spends his time between homes in Edinburgh, London, and Connecticut.
