Generation Unlimited is collaborating with the African Union Commission to support their continental youth response to COVID -19 – specifically the ‘Be a Responder’ initiative, which supports young people to engage their communities during and after the pandemic through mobilization, orientation, activation and conversations as well as to find local solutions to problems, to enable young people to showcase their innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership in the context of the pandemic.

Our first AUC/GenU joint webinar took place on Thursday 28 May at 2 p.m. EAT with the title “African Youth Respond: Ensuring Meaningful Youth Mobilization, Community Engagement and Volunteering during COVID-19.”

This webinar featured young panelists including Generation Unlimited Young Global Board member Sobel AzizJessica Tims, an award-nominated TV presenter and producer, and Raihanah Ibrahim, who sits on the AUC Youth Advisory Council.

Over the course of the conversation, the panelists covered the topics of:

  • General Strategies for activating young people towards civic participation, entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Considerations for youth engagement during social distancing
  • Mobilizing local influencers
  • Reaching the digitally unconnected
