Sophia Helal

Sophia Helal from Egypt is an advocate for climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She has emerged as a prominent voice in environmental advocacy. As the youngest Shabab Balad GenU Champion and a member of the 2024 Young People’s Action Team (YPAT) COHORT 3, she passionately promotes a sustainable lifestyle. Her participation in the 2022 FAO initiative "No One Behind" and her role as a 2023 GenU Egypt champion underscore her unwavering commitment to eco-friendly practices. With a robust background in music, vocals, drama, and acting, Sophia leverages her artistic talents to inspire her peers towards environmental stewardship, demonstrating that youth can drive significant environmental change1.

Sophia is equally dedicated to championing more inclusive approaches for young individuals under 15 years old. As a member of YPAT, she serves as a crucial sounding board to Generation Unlimited, ensuring that the voices of young people, particularly the most vulnerable and marginalized, are heard. Her mission is to ensure that the perspectives and needs of younger adolescents are represented in decision-making processes, thereby promoting inclusivity and equity in all initiatives.

In addition to her advocacy work, Sophia is committed to self-education and enhancing her capacity to acquire the skills necessary for her journey. She actively engages in various courses and workshops, such as the "Naming and Branding" course by Microsoft Learn, the "Define a Microsoft AI Strategy to Create Business Value in Sustainability" course, and the "SWOT Analysis - Planning for the Unexpected Future" course. These educational experiences have equipped her with practical knowledge and skills in areas such as branding, AI in sustainability, and strategic planning. Sophia firmly believes in continuous learning and self-improvement to better serve her community and contribute to a sustainable future.
