Capgemini among first private partners to join Green Rising
Capgemini and UNICEF launch a three-year partnership to support the Green Rising initiative
In a drive to create meaningful societal impact by empowering young people, Capgemini joins UNICEF on a three-year partnership to support the Green Rising initiative.
Implemented by Generation Unlimited, Green Rising aims to support the mobilization of millions of young people at a grassroots level, to drive climate action. Through this partnership, Capgemini and UNICEF are determined to support youth to spark a global movement activating youth-led projects and ideas, empowering children and adolescents with education, skills and opportunities to be champions for the planet and contribute to the SDGs.
Climate change is one of the most significant challenges of this era. In many countries, rising sea levels and temperatures are already putting stress on the ecosystem for communities– affecting where families and children can safely live, grow food, access water sources, go to school or even play - and while children are the least responsible for the changing environment, they are likely to bear the greatest burden now and in the future.
Capgemini’s support to UNICEF focuses for the first year on two programmes: the Global Volunteer initiative (GVI), UNICEF’s largest cohort of offline youth mobilization which allows young people to deliver change in their communities while building critical 21st century skills to generate measurable impact at scale, and Green YOMA, a Youth marketplace that guides, skills and connects young people to a variety of free online content and provides green specific opportunities, such as monthly challenges to mobilize youth, and a pitching competition for green business ideas.
“In the next three years, we will directly support millions of young people to take grassroots climate action and drive measurable impact at scale. Our Global Volunteer Initiative and Green YOMA solutions will engage youth as changemakers, connecting them to opportunities to volunteer, build green skills, create green ventures, secure green jobs and advocate for actions that protect the environment.”
In India, Capgemini continues to play an instrumental role in strengthening YuWaah (Generation Unlimited in India) as an advocate of youth enablement and an active member of YuWaah’s governance system. Since 2020, as a YuWaah Founding Partner, Capgemini has provided support towards creating digital and innovative solutions: the learning and skilling programme Passport to Earning, youth innovations platform UNISOLVE, and the youth-centric digital ecosystem Youth Hub that will become a single window platform of skilling, volunteering, and economic opportunities for young Indians, especially those from marginalized backgrounds.
In India, the partnership on the Green Rising will be largely implemented through MeriLiFE, a green volunteering, skilling, and leadership portal for youth, in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Government of India. MeriLiFE, which is the green corner of Youth Hub, will enable young people to identify green opportunities, record their actions, and progress towards environmental consciousness and adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
Prior to this partnership, Capgemini supported UNICEF through the COVAX initiative which main objective was to provide an equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic, and supported UNICEF’s humanitarian response in Ukraine.
