Nhial Deng is a 21 years old Ethiopian refugee living in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. His father originally comes from South Sudan and moved to Ethiopia more than five decades ago during the Sudan Civil War. He is passionate about the Sustainable Development Goals as a key to transforming our world, and his work revolves around advocacy, quality education, policy-making, peacebuilding, gender equality, and social entrepreneurship.

He firmly believes that young displaced people like himself have a significant role to play towards building a more just, peaceful, inclusive, secure, and sustainable world.

He is the Head of the Refugee Youth Peace Ambassadors, a refugee-led initiative that works towards enhancing peaceful coexistence between different communities in Kakuma, building ethical leaders and social entrepreneurs. Nhial provides consultancy services at Take Action Global - Project Kakuma which aims to provide quality education to children in Kakuma and a member of the Sky School’s Youth Advisory Group helping them to ensure their work is informed by the voices of the communities they served.

Sky School (Amala) is a global high school for refugees with the main office in London, UK and programmes in six different locations across the globe. He is also a ONE Campaign Champion in East Africa and supports ONE’s advocacy and campaign efforts in the region and the African Union. Nhial is a certified social media marketing consultant and embraces the power of communication to change how people think about refugees and help shape narratives around the refugee crisis.
