Statement from Children and Young People for a Safe, Inclusive and Empowering AI Future
“We, the children and young people, are not passive users of technology but informed participants, protected contributors, and empowered beneficiaries”
About
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly expanding, reshaping systems across education, livelihood, healthcare, finance, communication and beyond. Children and young people are growing up at the centre of this transformation, engaging with AI as an increasingly integral part of how they learn, communicate, access information and imagine their futures. When used responsibly, AI can simplify complex concepts, support diverse learning needs, expand access to resources, and enable creativity and skill development.
At the same time, children and young people are raising significant concerns about the development and use of AI. These include exposure to AI-generated misinformation, growing dependence on AI tools and chatbots for learning and problem solving, and emerging reliance on AI for emotional support. Unequal access to AI and digital infrastructure also risks widening the divide between those with digital skills and those without.
The Children and Youth Statement on a Safe and Inclusive AI Future brings together these hopes and concerns, calling for AI that is safe, inclusive, transparent and grounded in children’s rights. It urges leaders to ensure that AI strengthens learning, creativity and opportunity while safeguarding the dignity, protection and well‑being of every child and young person.
